3-8

Having riso printed copies of the zine’s subsequent issues ready for distribution, I turned my focus towards the PLAYSTYLE website. Despite wanting initially to focus only on creating a physical discourse separate from the traditions of the medium, I decided that for the sake of accessibility, it was only right to have an online presence. Anyone who can access the website can download and print the zine at home.

I considered a site layout that mirrored the format of the zine, also using five columns. However, there were times during the development of the zine where I found myself editing down content so as to fit the bookmark format. I decided instead that the website can act as a complementary space, in which articles can be expanded upon or allowed to run longer. Images will be full colour, hyperlinks included and space made for additional citations, whilst still using a simple design drawing on the zine’s aesthetic.

Working page layouts

When conceptualising the ‘one story per issue’ format of the zine, I was considering how PLAYSTYLE fits into my future practice. I wanted to design a manageable, scalable platform within which I knew I could continually publish new content alongside other commitments, but that also offered space for experimentation; and the experiments of others, in a long-term scenario where other contributors provide content. I want this to extend to the website and pursued a simplicity after several unsatisfying tests using more complicated multi-column layouts.

The website can be viewed at www.playstyle.world.

Articles will be added gradually, in coordination with the distribution of the print version.
